Seniors,
Most of you have been doing commendable work in researching and writing about your chosen topics. I appreciate the variety of thought, and the willingness to consider ideas you didn’t know, and perspectives you didn’t have before. That’s learning. While this semester has not been ideal, the novelty (as in newness, not book-like) of our world is exciting and terrifying. Like a roiling sea, though, the tumult turns of nutrients and opportunities for growth and change. I hope you seize the best of what is out there and move with the current or fight it if that is what is your need. At the district’s direction, I will not be assigning further work. The last two scheduled weeks of class are for you to catch up on what has not been done or improve what you have done. Yes, that means we are not crafting a final draft to the synthesis essay. If you have completed all the work up to this point, congratulations! You’re done! As always, feel free do contact me with your needs now or in the future. I will be accepting your work until the last scheduled day of classes: May 28th. McLeod This week you will work on transitioning your research from your source notes to the detailed outline (rough draft of the essay). There are a variety of resources to help you when drafting your paragraphs on both my blog and blackboard. Please review them. Submit your Thesis sheet and Outline by Friday, May 15th.
This week you will begin finding research on your chosen topic. 1. Review Credible/Valid sources Read this article from Purdue's OWL site 2. Learn how to use databases on mel.org to access articles. 3. Find 2 research articles, read, and complete a Source note & Evaluation sheet for each. (Due on Blackboard under "Content")
This week you will begin investigating topics for your senior project and eventually choosing your selected topic. 1. Review the Topic Proposal Sheet 2. Review the two documents that provide previously successful topics. 3. Complete the Topic Proposal Sheet in as a .docx and submit it for feedback from Mr. McLeod to Blackboard. This will be marked Credit (CR) or Incomplete (I). Incomplete assignments may be resubmitted to attain credit.
